Cabinet Refillable Medicine
2021
BACKGROUND
Cabinet Health saw that the world of over-the-counter medicine involves a lot of single-use plastic, customer confusion, and an overall poor product experience. Cabinet needed a partner in Facility to help strategize, design, and produce a new, one-of-a-kind sustainable medicine system.

STUDY
Cabinet’s existing line of medicines offered drug transparency and quality reassurances, but the packaging didn’t yet resonate with the goals of the brand. Moving to a refillable medicine bottle would be a sustainable change and notable for the brand.
“Facility helped Cabinet dream and then walked hand-in-hand with us to make it a reality. They offer a perfect blend of strategic thinking and execution and it's a pleasure to work with them.”
—Russell Gong, Cabinet Health Co-Founder
STRATEGY
We also aimed to make info like ingredients, instructions, warnings, and expiration dates more accessible and better-understood. And when customers weren’t at their best they needed an easy and pleasurable product experience that other brands lacked.
EXPLORATION
Glass and metal were durable, sustainable choices for the bottles but child safety meant that certain plastic parts were crucial. For refill pouches we employed a novel, compostable fiber. It was all about getting as much value out of the materials as possible.
EXPLORATION
Medicine is heavily regulated so we had to make sure we got the details just right. Our color coded system, graphically clear information, and replaceable, 2-sided magnetic labels made this system totally comprehensive and considered.
RESULT
The Cabinet refillable medicine system features a frosted glass bottle with a child-resistant, colorful plastic cap that has a satisfying snap to close. A metal info label snaps to the magnetic cap, which is shaped to allow for stacking as well. The color and label system make finding the right medicine easy and the easy-to-tear & pour, compostable refill pouches mean your cabinet is always stocked.
